Bronx Opera Company brings new approach to opera and theatre

The Bronx Opera Company has been around and creating yearly productions since 1967. But while the word opera is in their name, the content of their performances may be a surprise.
The musical theatre collective describes what they do as “musical comedy or Broadway with operatic music,” much different from the singers in tuxedo’s belting lyrics that are staples of traditional opera.
They also work with kids in the Bronx to experience something they never have through partnerships with schools across the borough.
The Bronx Opera is getting set to begin work on its next show, with auditions within the next few weeks and the performance set to take place in January.
