The holiday season is about family and keeping traditions alive, and in the Van Nest section of The Bronx, residents are doing just that by stopping at a longtime neighborhood bakery.

At Conti’s Pastry Shop, customers lined up early to pick up cakes, cookies and other sweet treats for their holiday celebrations.

Staff members expected hundreds of people to pass through the doors throughout the day.

The shop was filled with desserts of every kind, from classic cakes and cookies to elaborate holiday displays, including a Christmas tree decorated entirely with cookie ornaments.

Several customers said Conti’s was just the first stop on a busy day of visiting relatives and delivering desserts.

Others said coming to the bakery is a tradition they have followed for years and one they could not imagine skipping.

Conti’s Pastry Shop has been serving the community since the 1920s, and staff members say they enjoy seeing generations of families return year after year.

The shop’s manager said the holiday season is a favorite time because it feels like they are celebrating alongside their customers.
