A group of fishing boat owners in Monmouth County have been stranded since last week because the bridge that allows them access to the ocean is broken.

The Route 71 Bridge that crosses the Shark River between Belmar and Avon won’t be ready to open again until at least next week, according to the Department of Transportation.

The bridge needs to open in order for fishing boats docked in Belmar Marina to access the Atlantic Ocean.

Boats have been stuck since last Thursday night, causing fishing boat owners to lose thousands of dollars this past weekend.
