(04/23/07) EDISON ? A broken main disrupted water service for many residents in Edison early Monday morning.
Although many customers have their service back, about 260 patients at Edison Estates long-term care facility are without water. Drinking water has been brought in, but many of the elderly residents have had to make adjustments.
Patients said they had to go without showers and dry wash in the morning. Bathrooms in the facility have also been affected.
Renee Lake, VP of Hartwick Estates, said they are compensating for the outage.
?For those that do need to use and flush we do have water that we can use to clean the receptacles out or toilets out,? said Lake. ?And we do also have plastic bags placed in all the toilets so if someone does forget.?
A fire safety hazard has been avoided thanks to 8,000 gallons of water that was brought in and hooked into the building?s sprinkler system.
The Edison deputy fire chief says the pipe should be repaired by sometime Monday night. Seven Edison schools were also closed as a result of the break.
