A nursing care center in Bergen County was evacuated Monday afternoon after the air conditioning malfunctioned.
Temperatures topped above 90 degrees Monday in New Jersey, so the patients and residents at the Inglemoor Center in Englewood were evacuated as a precaution. About 50 people will be relocated.
“As a skilled nursing provider, we are fully prepared for situations like these and have a thorough and effective plan for any situation in which patients require relocation,” a spokesperson for the center said in a statement.
The residents were taken to nearby nursing centers. The families were notified in advance, according to the spokesperson.
The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for most of the state due to the high temperatures. New Jersey is in its fourth day of a heat wave.
There was no word on when the air conditioning would be fixed or when the patients can return.
