The Bloomfield Police Department has announced that it is joining the app Neighbors by Ring.
Public Safety Director Sam DeMaio says they've asked all residents who have a Ring Surveillance System to sign up with the company's free Neighbors app.
Users registered in the same neighborhood can share crime and safety related videos, real-time alerts and up-to-date information with each other and police.
"We can send it out and geo-fence it and send it to a particular neighborhood for anyone who has a Ring doorbell to ask if anyone has seen this person in the neighborhood -- if you did, what time you saw them," says DeMaio.
DeMaio says the high-tech investigative tool will help police solve crimes faster and reduce the crime rate.
"It's just another way for us to interact with the community now using video technology, which is so prevalent in every investigation today," he says.
The Neighbors app is free for residents and the police department.
