A Port Authority police officer killed during the Sept. 11 attacks was honored during a blood drive held at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset.
Officer Thomas Gorman, a longtime blood donor, donated blood for the last time one day before the 2001 attacks.
A monthlong blood drive honoring Gorman came to an end Tuesday on what would have been his 57th birthday.
"Because he was such a strong believer in the cause, we are honored to be able to celebrate his life by giving people an opportunity to give life to others," says hospital blood supervisor Christia Keyte.
