(04/07/06) DENVILLE ? Many blind adults in New Jersey say they?re devastated over the closure of a Denville summer camp for the blind.
The New Jersey Foundation for the Blind, a non-profit organization, says it simply can?t continue to offer the low-cost program at Diamond Spring Lodge. In its place, the organization says it?s going to offer rehabilitation programs and some recreational programs. However, blind adults say transportation to and from the camp daily presents a major obstacle.
Those who usually attend the camp say they?re going to miss the friendship and camaraderie the program had to offer. Many camp attendees are calling for the Foundation for the Blind to hold a public hearing on the camp?s status.
