Incoming sailing vessels to City Island were saluted by the City Island Sail and Power Squadron and given blessings from members of the clergy today.
The Blessing of the Fleet is a long-standing naval tradition symbolizing the start of the boating season on City Island.
Although scenic, the annual blessing serves as a reminder for boaters to wear protective gear, stay off the rails of the boat and not to drink while riding a boat.
Each boat received a prayer from a representative in the Catholic, Methodist and Jewish faiths.
