Time for our best of New Jersey. And you know, it isn't limited to just some great coffee or delicious diners. It's summer here in the garden state and today we're focusing on ice cream. New Jersey. Tony Cap is in Scotch Plains this morning at the urban Tony. I follow these guys on social media. They're a huge deal. I'll tell you this guy right here is getting it done. There's no doubt about that. The urban cone, of course, he couldn't get it done without mom in the background. Aida Aida. Thanks for letting us in here today. Dr Jamar Childs is the founder and CEO of the Urban Cone. You see it behind you uniting the culture and overcoming societal obstacles. One cone at a time. You are making us the Urban Cone. This is your best seller. Yes, indeed. This is going to be a cookies and cream, a brownie, some fudge and some cookie crunch. Uh Tell us the back story here. This is your passion. You love ice cream. Tell me why you love this so much because then we're gonna get into everything else you're doing. I love it so much because it brings people joy. It brings people smiles and it unites everyone. When you're having a bad day, come to the ice cream shop. You leave having a good day when you're having a good day, come to the ice cream shop. You have an even better day. Fantastic. You gotta love this ice cream shop too. As soon as you walk in, it just puts you in a mood, so colorful, so clean, which we were talking about before. And that's a key to any type of business where you're having food, you want it to be clean and then you want to make delicious products like that. That is the urban cone. Now tell, tell everybody else what else you're doing at, at what, 33 years of age? I'm 33 years of age and I'm a law in the law enforcement in New Jersey of about 10 years and I'm a college professor. I teach government criminal justice and public administration. But this is my love in the culture and overcoming societal obstacles one cone at a time. Hey mom, how proud of you, huh? Not bad. Very proud. He is amazing. That is great. We appreciate you uh you know, being in law enforcement as well. We thank you for that. And again, why did you create that? You, you had enough going on? Why did you get this started? And when you started during the pandemic? Yes, absolutely. So in uh 2019 is when I began to curate my, my idea. And then in 2020 when the pandemic hit, that's when my business started first. I thought it was gonna taint, but it was the total opposite. Everyone was stuck at home and we just wanted to bring joy. We have, we come straight to you. We do private events and everything. We're going to show one of those trucks. Look forward to it. It sounds really cool. I can't wait to see it. This is fantastic ice cream. I got to eat a little solid food first before I dig into that. It is time for best of New Jersey. And guess what? We're not just limiting it to coffee or diners. It's summer time. So today we're focusing on ice cream and New New Jersey's Tony Caputo. How's the job? You're in Scotch Plains at Urban Cone? Oh, that, oh, wow. Ice cream boy right there. Yes. Can I buy some ice cream? Laura, we see you doing this main street every Friday. We got to have more fun than you have on Friday. All right, here on the best of New Jersey. This is the Urban Cone. Iced out car. You want some pina Colada. There we go. We have it for you and look, we can bring the party to you as well. That's what he is doing right here. This is fantastic. Look at this truck, let me wheel the car a little bit so you can get a better look at the truck. Dr Jamar Charles is the founder CEO of the Urban Cone route 22 in Scotch Places. This is awesome, man. And this is what you said. This is how it started for you. That's you started during COVID. So you took the party out to everybody else and this is what you brought them. Absolutely. The party comes to you. This is amazing. I mean, you have all the ice creams, you take it all with you and then what do you, what do you have there? So, this is just the basic cookies and cream, but very tasty cookies and cream. No, thank you. Absolutely. So, we have a lot of options if you're a person that's dairy free, we have a vegan vanilla. We also have the ice, I call it sorbet. Very tasty. Fantastic. You can't beat it and you go everywhere. Not just here in Jersey. Absolutely. We go all over New Jersey. We do New York City and we do Philadelphia area. This is really working out for you considering you're in law enforcement, you're a professor and yet you love the ice cream. Absolutely. This is my baby right here. You work hard for seven months. You get rewarded tremendously and then during the winter time you just plan on your next moves for the business. What's the most popular party you're going to? Is it kids parties? Is it adult events? You know, wedding? So, it's actually amazing as you see, we have the Sunday menus and then we also offer a selection of novelties. Of course, you have the traditional red, white and blues which people love. That's going to be your bomb pop. But after the kids are out the way the parents can enjoy a nice treat too. We have something for everyone to enjoy. This is fantastic. I mean, you got the shop here on 22. You got the Mobile Urban Cone as well. You got the iced out Urban Car. Tell us about this. What are you making in here? So iced out. We usually bring those to festivals and that's going to be your sorbet also known as Italian Ice. It's all pretty much the same thing, but we have different flavors. Mango, cherry blue raspberry rainbow. Very tasty. Yeah, I'm Italian but I grew up in Philly and they call it water ice with the accent. The water ice. You got the water ice, you got the Italian ice, you got the ice cream, you can't beat it. It's the best of New Jersey, the Urban Cone, bringing folks together over some ice cream, uniting the culture and overcoming societal obstacles. One cone at a time. Good stuff, Jamar.
