A Garfield man has been charged with assaulting and endangering three children, including allegedly causing one child to suffer significant bodily injury, Bergen County prosecutors said Thursday.

Paul J. Gomez, 40, was charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, one count of aggravated assault and two counts of simple assault, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities said the investigation began June 21 after the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit about an alleged assault involving three juveniles at a Fairview residence.

Investigators determined Gomez allegedly assaulted and endangered the three children June 16, causing one of them to sustain significant bodily injury.

Gomez was arrested June 23 in Paramus. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail, made his first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court and was later released pending further court proceedings.
