Beachwood Community Day held at Birch and Surf Park
The Beachwood community is giving back to both a police officer whose home was destroyed in a fire and the owner of a hot dog stand who was badly injured in a crash today at the Birch and Surf Park.
The Beachwood EMS and K-9 Valor Force is collecting items for Officer Russell Okinsky's family.
Organizers say they are mainly looking for dog toys, beds, food and a cage for Okinsky's police dog Keto, who was injured during the fire and is now recovering.
Every person got out of the house safely, but one of the family's four dogs died in the fire.
They also say that gift cards, clothes, and canned foods can be donated to help out the family.
Also at the park, the owner of the Wunder Wiener will be presented with donations after his food truck was hit by another car along Route 9 in Berkeley Township on June 11.
The owner suffered serious injuries, but is now able to sell hot dogs once again thanks to police unions in the area.
Hundreds are expected to turn out to the park for the event, which runs until 4 p.m. today.
