Hundreds of employees at Bayonne Medical Center were locked out of the hospital Tuesday morning. The move happened after talks broke down between management and the hospital employees' union. The hospital brought in replacement workers after the talks ended.Union members say they will be holding an informational picket, but hospital officials say the threat of a strike led to the lockout.Hospital officials claim the union had until midnight Sunday to provide, in writing, that they would withdraw a strike notice. Officials say this would have allowed the hospital time to cancel the replacement workers. Hospital officials say they never received that notice.A union spokeswoman says the 843 members were to be polled to change the strike notice to an informational picket, but they did not have time to have all of them vote. The spokeswoman says due to the lack of time, nothing could be put in writing.
