A standoff, fueled by a domestic dispute, ended with a man taking his life Sunday in a Basking Ridge home and his wife in the hospital.
Swat teams, camouflaged snipers and officers arrived at the home on Crab Tree Court about 4 p.m. Authorities say they tried to make contact with the man to peacefully diffuse the situation. However, officials found him dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound when they entered the home about 9 p.m. Police also found the man's wife with a gunshot wound to the torso. She remains in critical condition.
Police say the couple was in the middle of a divorce and the wife had come to pick up her belongings when her husband confronted her.
