A rehabilitated bald eagle was released back into the wild Sunday at Mercer County Park in Lawrence Township.
The bird was found in a ditch about nine weeks ago, suffering from injuries and sickness. It was brought to Toms River Avian Care, a facility run by Don Bonica and his family for 30 years. They have rescued and rehabilitated close to 40,000 birds, including a dozen bald eagles.
Bonica isn?t sure how the bird was injured, but says it was dehydrated and suffered tissue damage.
