Friday was the 18th consecutive day when not a drop of water was collected in our weather stations across the state.
In a brief conversation with New Jersey's State Climatologist, Dr. David Robinson, he said, “Should October come in under 0.25” for NJ it will be NJ’s driest month (or any) on record.”
Looking at the mid- to long-range guidance, it looks like this could be a possibility.
The best chance for showers is this upcoming Thursday.
A weak frontal boundary is expected to pass through the region.
Computer models suggest a 35 % chance brief showers are possible. But even this isn’t a slam dunk, and the 0.25” of water expected to fall on portions of the area certainly won’t be a drought buster. How could one possibly be annoyed by sunny skies and warm temperatures with the weekend quickly approaching?
The weekend forecast is magnificent. Sunny and warm with highs in the 70s. Six to eight degrees warmer than normal.
Perfect for apple picking, pumpkin picking, hiking, and looking at the colors on the trees change. The dry weather has affected all that was just mentioned. Crops are smaller and not as sweet and the foliage isn't as vibrant because of the dry weather.
This past September was the third driest since we’ve been keeping records. If this persistent dry air continues, October could be the driest on record. Water levels in reservoirs will continue to drop. Restrictions on water will be implemented. And we will continue to look to the sky in hopes of storm clouds on the horizon.

MONDAY: Mainly sunny with highs reaching near 80. Clear overnight with lows around 56.
