Authorities say a man followed
a woman to her home in Jackson and stabbed her following a road rage incident over
the weekend.
Officers were called to a home on Maria Street Saturday around 4:50 p.m.
According to police, Michael Mahan, 38, of Ewing, punched the woman and
threatened to kill her as he held a knife to her.
Police say Mahan then slashed her face and ran
when a neighbor intervened and called 911.
Police got a description of Mahan's vehicle and pulled him over. When
the officer got out of the patrol car, police say Mahan sped
away. Mahan then swerved
into an oncoming lane and struck a vehicle near the intersection.
A short time later, Mahan
rear-ended another car and ran the vehicle off the road into the woods. Mahan
made it another 500 feet before his car broke down. He was taken into custody.
Police later learned Mahan
threatened another resident after parking in front of the man's house before
the stabbing.
Mahan has been charged with
attempted murder and aggravated assault, among other charges.
The stabbing victim was hospitalized, while the drivers of the vehicles were treated for minor injuries.
Mahan is being held at the
Ocean County jail ahead of a first appearance in court.
