Passaic County prosecutors identified the driver who was killed in Monday’s truck fire and explosion on Route 3 in Clifton.
Authorities say Luis Santiago, a 55-year-old male from Linden, was killed in the crash. They say the commercial truck traveling on Route 3 East clipped a NJ Transit bus before crashing into a barrier causing the vehicle to catch fire.
There were no reported injuries to any of the 29 passengers on the bus.
Officials say the chemicals that were onboard the truck were identified as “acetic acid, heptane exxon, hexylene glycol, sodium xylene sulfonate, Texanol ester alcohol, acetone, triethanolamine, citric acid anhydrous, sodium hydroxide, mineral spirits, and sodium bicarbonate.”
The cause of the vehicle crash has not yet been determined. This investigation remains ongoing.
