A Harrison police employee is accused of having more than 1,000 images of child pornography.
Investigators say they received a tip about the crime. Secaucus police then used the suspect’s IP address to pinpoint the source of child sex abuse photos that were uploaded onto the internet.
That investigation led authorities to 39-year-old Jason Lewis. News 12 has learned that Lewis has been a Harrison police dispatcher for four years. He had just begun the training process for his role as a police officer.
Harrison Police Chief David Strumolo says that Lewis has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
“We encourage any residents with concerns regarding any of our personnel to report those concerns to the Harrison Police Department’s Internal Affairs Unit,” Strumolo wrote in a statement.
Lewis was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
