Police in Brick received a tip that the company Safe Sites LLC was conducting COVID-19 testing out of a home, leading authorities to take action.
Code enforcement issued a summons to the company to stop testing.
News 12 called to see if the site was shut down after the summons, and the person who answered said it was still open.
Safe Sites LLC also had a location listed in Passaic as a testing site, but News 12 learned it was Chai Urgent Care running that location with the city. Passaic officials immediately tried to find out if there was an existing relationship between Safe Sites LLC and Chai Care. It turns out there is no relationship between the two.
"I was told they were stating they were here in Passaic — thing is I never heard of them," says Passaic Mayor Hector Lora. "I immediately had my director of Human Services reach out to try to find out if there's an existing relationship with Chai Care and when he called the phone number, he found out to his surprise they had no relationships."
Before Safe Sites took down addresses and some pictures from its Facebook page, the company had posted that it will come to you to conduct COVID-19 tests for peace of mind before vacations, and family or corporate events.
Officials urge people to use caution when looking for a site to get tested.
The Ocean County health officer says the state Department of Health is supposed to issue waivers. Safe Sites LLC did not provide that documentation to the county.
