A mother and her two children escaped safely in Newark after a man got into their parked car on Bloomfield Avenue last weekend and threatened to drive off with the kids inside.

Officials said the suspect, Pedro Salazar, got into the vehicle while the family was still inside. The woman and her children were able to get out without being hurt.

Police later found the suspect and the stolen car near Clinton Avenue.

Salazar now faces carjacking charges.
