Atlantic Health locations in New Jersey are now screening for coronavirus variants with a new rapid test.
The clinic says anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 will receive another test to see exactly which variant of the virus they have.
Atlantic Health System officials say the process only takes a matter of hours.
“We all know that viruses change and they mutate and we got to stay ahead of the virus,” says CEO Brian Gragnolati. “You just can't do that unless you know what you're dealing with.”
Their new testing methods were announced earlier this week. Atlantic Health is working to get variant testing into other health clinics in the state.
Health experts believe the variants are contributing to a rise in cases in parts of the country.
