(10/23/06) ASBURY PARK ? Students nervously returned to classes in Asbury Park Monday days after an 18-year-old was gunned down outside a middle school.
Asbury Park High School student Tylik Pugh was killed near Asbury Park Middle School last Wednesday. Ironically, staff members were holding emergency drills that same morning. Following the shooting, the drill became a frightening reality as administrators locked down all Asbury Park schools.
All Asbury Park schools were closed for two days following the incident. Many parents say they are extremely worried about their children. They?ve applauded the increased police presence, and want to make sure extra security becomes the norm. Police say the shooter, 19-year-old Shawn Johnson, is still on the loose. They say Johnson should be considered armed and dangerous.
