HBO’s iconic television series “Game of Thrones” will be coming to an end this Sunday after eight seasons.
The series is based on New Jersey native George R.R. Martin’s best-selling book series “A Song of Ice and Fire.” It has become a worldwide phenomenon since its 2011 debut.
Fans often cite reasons that they love the series as its deep storyline, talented acting, epic medieval battles, beautifully setting locations, lavish costumes, sometimes the lack of costumes and did we mention three gigantic dragons?
The show has spawned pop-up bars, merchandise, catchphrases, watch parties and bar trivia nights.
The Asbury Festhalle and Biergarten in Asbury Park features watch parties every Sunday and turns the bar into the mystical land of Westeros.
“As you’re eating dinner, you’re watching last week’s episode,” says general manager Nick Falco. “All of a sudden you’re done, you’re going right into the new one.”
Those who come to the sold-out events can expect to see the flag and banners of the various houses featured in the show, as well as a special menu.
“We brought in the ox horn mugs to really feel like you’re immersed in the show,” says Falco.
Fans who attend the series finale have a chance to win some special prizes.
“We’re going to have a raffle for every house bottle or special scotch, as well as a Johnny Walker-themed brand called the White Walker,” Falco says.
The last episode of “Game of Thrones” airs this Sunday at 9 p.m.
