Mayor Cory Booker (D-Newark) says arrests made Wednesday in a suspected robbery spree stand as a symbol of progress in crime-ridden Newark.Police arrested three men they say committed more than a dozen armed robberies in just 10 days. They say 18-year-old Elijah Johnson led two friends, ages 16 and 17, on a crime spree that included shootings and armed robberies. The three teens are charged with aggravated assault and armed robbery.Booker called the arrests progress in the fight against crime. Data shows that murders are down 10 percent and shootings down 24 percent in the last five months. The mayor says he's putting the numbers out there because he knows he'll be judged on whether or not crime goes down in the city.
