Ansonia teen accused of stealing cars, told Shelton police he was following 'TikTok trend'

A 16-year-old Ansonia boy is facing charges after police say they caught him in the act of stealing cars. They say he admitted to being inspired by a TikTok challenge.
The juvenile was arrested Tuesday in Shelton just after midnight on Coram Avenue and Hill Street.    
In the past three days, police say there have been 6 reported stolen cars in Shelton - five Hyundais and one Kia.
Police say they received a report that young males were attempting to break into vehicles in the area and that the suspects were driving a stolen Hyundai that was reported missing out of Shelton.
Police say they found a vehicle matching the description of the stolen car and pulled the driver over on the Derby, Shelton Bridge.
Police arrested a 16-year-old juvenile from Ansonia who was charged with larceny, burglary, criminal trover, and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
The juvenile told police that he was following a trend on TikTok regarding stealing Hyundai and Kia vehicles.
