Amtrak, NJ Transit service resumes with ‘significant delays’ after power outage, overhead wire issues

FRIDAY UPDATE: NJ Transit service has resumed into and out of Penn Station New York this morning due to Amtrak overhead wire issues in Penn Station New York.

Amtrak and New Jersey Transit have resumed service following a power outage and overhead wire issues Thursday afternoon.
Amtrak suspended service between New Haven, Connecticut and Philadelphia for a time due to a malfunctioning circuit breaker near New York Penn Station. Amtrak says that “significant residual delays” were expected.
NJ Transit also temporarily suspended service into and out of New York Penn Station due to a large brushfire along the New Jersey Turnpike in Secaucus. The agency said that up to 30-minute delays were expected due to the issue. Midtown Direct trains are no longer being diverted to Hoboken.
NJ Transit officials say that rail tickets and passes are being cross-honored. More information can be found on NJ Transit’s website.

The delays come less than two days after a different transit mess due to overhead Amtrak wire issues.
Commuters have had to deal with delays of up to an hour and a half on Tuesday night, as well as the complete suspension of some lines on Tuesday and Wednesday. These disruptions come ahead of a fare hike set to take effect on July 1.
Gov. Phil Murphy criticized NJ Transit and Amtrak leaders about the issues and said that his office is working to get to the bottom of all the disruptions.
