? New Jersey referees for youth games are taking extra precautions to ensure their safety on and off the court.
Referee Jack McCormick, of Piscataway, says he has received death threats and was attacked by an angry parent after making a call against a child. A New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association rule that requires referees leave the court when the final buzzer rings is designed to prevent confrontations. Still, officials say parents have been getting more aggressive.
Referees say parents need to remember they?re just doing their job and they say they have children too.
