AG: Manchester police fatally shot man during police encounter

The New Jersey Office of the Attorney General is investigating a deadly shooting by police in Ocean County.
Authorities say that police officers responding to a 911 call in Manchester Township shot and killed a man.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately made available. A source tells News 12 New Jersey that this may have started as a domestic dispute.
The incident happened just before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on Elizabeth Avenue. Officials say two officers located the suspect and fired their service weapons, killing him. A gun was found near the suspect, according to officials.
Neighbors tell News 12 that the suspect drove up Coolidge Avenue, made a left on Elizabeth Avenue and struck a car. They said that he then backed up into a picket fence, got out of his vehicle and ran into the woods.
The name of the suspect was not released.
Under New Jersey law, the Office of the Attorney General is required to investigate all police interactions that involve a person’s death.
