AAA Northeast is urging drivers to stay home as snow and blizzard‑like conditions move into the Northeast late Sunday into Monday.

The storm brings the possibility of power outages, and drivers are encouraged to charge phones, portable chargers and other essential items before the worst conditions arrive.

Road travel may become difficult, and drivers are advised to stay off the roads during and after the storm when possible. Those who must travel should clear the vehicle’s tailpipe before starting the engine and remove all snow and ice from the vehicle to improve visibility and prevent blowing snow from affecting other drivers.

Slowing down and increasing following distance can help account for lower traction on snow or ice. Drivers are reminded to ease off the accelerator in a skid, brake gently and steer in the direction they want to go.

Cold‑weather emergency kits are recommended, including warm clothing, blankets, water, food, chargers, an ice scraper and any needed medications.

After the storm, driveways and walkways should be cleared quickly to reduce the risk of slips and falls. Vehicles may shake the first time they are driven due to snow and ice buildup in the wheels, which can be removed with a brush or cleared at a car wash.

Drivers heading out immediately after the snow should give plow crews and cleanup teams plenty of room.
