A love story, in the most unusual of circumstances, is playing out on a
New Jersey stage.
The characters Lorena, a spirit, steps from the darkness into the bright
empty light, where she encounters Antonio.
“We keep getting to know
each other in such a way that it is impossible not to fall in love,” says actor
Jorge Luna.
"Baipas",
originally written in Spanish and now being performed in English for the first
time, stars Maggie Bofill and Jorge Luna as the spirits of two hospital
patients whose lives are at risk in the production by George Street Playhouse
at New Brunswick PAC. The play asks the question: If your life was on
the line, and you had a last chance at romance – would you take it?
“Baipas” is directed by
Julio Monge, who says the play strips everything down to this:
“The connections that we
make, and how we affect each other, and how much life we give one another,” says Monge.
“Baipas” is written by the
legendary Puerto Rican filmmaker, Jacobo Morales. Performances run
through March 20.
