911 operators in Monmouth and Ocean counties say they have an emergency of their own.
Operators say there are currently 10 positions open. The Ocean County Communications Center has had positions opened for more than a year. Operators say their workload is always heavy and the phones ring non-stop with people in need.
Some say the reason for the shortage is because of the stress, long hours and low wages. One operator says he spends more time at work than at home. Despite the shortage, operators say their work is very rewarding because they are helping the public.
