Nine rest stops on the Garden State Parkway will soon sport new names honoring iconic state natives.
The New Jersey Turnpike Authority made the announcement on Tuesday. It's being done in conjunction with the New Jersey Hall of Fame. Gov. Phil Murphy says it's part of a larger effort to showcase local heroes.
The icons include James Gandolfini, Larry Doby, Connie Chung, Whitney Houston, Jon Bon Jovi, Judy Blume, Celia Cruz, Toni Morrison and perhaps New Jersey’s most famous native son, Frank Sinatra.
Notably absent was rock ‘n’ roll icon Bruce Springsteen.
