A Tuesday night drug bust on Storms Avenue in Jersey City led to three arrests and the seizure of two handguns and illegal narcotics.
Members of the Jersey City Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit were watching the area Tuesday night around 9 p.m. following reports of open-air drug transactions. During the operation, officers moved in and took three local residents into custody.
A search during the investigation yielded two handguns, hollow-point bullets, drug paraphernalia, and various illegal narcotics, including suspected heroin and crack cocaine.
Police charged 70-year-old Carmen Figueroa with a long list of drug and weapons offenses. Investigators allege Figueroa was distributing drugs within 1,000 feet of a school and 500 feet of a public housing complex. Her charges include unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of prohibited ammunition, and multiple counts of intent to distribute narcotics and prescription medication.
Two other women were also taken into custody during the bust. Anita Alfred, 45, was charged with drug possession and bail jumping. Melissa Rivera, 45, faces drug possession charges alongside four counts of bail jumping.
