New Jersey lawmakers scrapped the 25-foot smoking rule Wednesday.

One April 15, the indoor-smoking ban went into effect in the Garden State. The ban also made it illegal to smoke within 25 feet of a public doorway outside a building. However, state health officials have decided to let individual municipalities make their own decisions about smoking near a building.

Some business owners and smokers are happy lawmakers decided to get rid of the 25-foot rule. And while smoking is banned in bars and restaurants, Atlantic City casinos lobbied successfully for a special exemption from the new law.
