Downpours and lightning are creating major problems across parts of New Jersey this morning.

A flash flood warning is in effect for parts of Monmouth and Ocean counties until 11 a.m. as heavy rain causes rapid flooding.

Nearly 1 to 2 inches of rain has already fallen, with rainfall rates continuing at up to 1.5 to 2.5 inches per hour.

Drivers should avoid flooded roads and never attempt to drive through water.

Power outages are also mounting. PSE&G reports 15,652 customers without power across New Jersey, while JCP&L reports 624 customers out.

Flooding is also impacting drivers. As of 5:50 a.m., flooding on Route 42 northbound south of Greentree Road in Washington Township in Gloucester County had closed one of two right lanes and the right shoulder.

Colton Road in Edison Township is closed in both directions between Route 27 and Raleigh Road due to downed wires. Drivers should detour via Sanders Road until further notice.
