A 20-year-old West Harrison man was killed after getting out of his disabled vehicle on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Greenburgh, prompting a crash investigation that shut down all northbound lanes for several hours Friday morning.

New York State Police say the crash happened around 11:40 p.m. Thursday near mile marker 7.0 on the northbound side of the parkway.

Investigators say the man was driving a 2004 Volvo when he struck the center guide rail, causing the vehicle to become disabled in the right lane. Police say he then exited the vehicle and was struck by a northbound 2020 Acura.

The driver of the Acura remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The fatal crash led to a lengthy overnight investigation that closed all three northbound lanes near Dobbs Ferry Road, leaving drivers stuck in hours-long backups Friday morning before the roadway reopened.

State police have not released the victim's identity pending notification of family members. The investigation remains ongoing.
