Hundreds of survivors, supporters and advocates gathered at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport on Sunday for the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.

The event aims to raise awareness about breast cancer and support efforts to save lives through research, education and patient services. Participants also raised money for the American Cancer Society.

Among those taking part was Sacred Heart University student Chelsea Perez, who said she walked in honor of her grandmother.

“She's one of my biggest heroes,” Perez said. “She has honestly shown me what it means to be alive.”
