Oscar-winning actress Eva Marie Saint, who was born in Newark and went on to become one of Hollywood's most celebrated performers, has died at the age of 102.

Saint won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in "On the Waterfront" alongside Marlon Brando. The film was shot in Hoboken and helped launch a career that spanned decades.

She later starred in Alfred Hitchcock's thriller "North by Northwest" and earned an Emmy Award for the miniseries "People Like Us."

Born on July 4 in Newark, Saint began acting in college before moving to New York, where she found work in radio and television. She studied at the famed Actors Studio under Elia Kazan and Lee Strasberg alongside many of the era's most influential performers.
