A 67-year-old Ocean County man is facing an animal cruelty charge after an investigation revealed he left a dog unattended inside a warm vehicle for an extended period, leading to the animal's death.
Manchester Township Police Department charged William Bevan Jr., of Whiting, with third-degree animal cruelty on Thursday, Oct. 1, following a month-long investigation.
The investigation began on Sept. 3 at approximately 9:00 p.m., when Manchester Township police officers responded to a residence on Norwalk Avenue after receiving a report of a deceased dog located in a driveway.
Detectives who especially trained to investigate animal abuse and neglect, took over the case. Following witness interviews, investigative follow-ups, and a necropsy on the dog, detectives determined the animal died after being left alone in a vehicle during warm weather conditions.
Working in coordination with the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, police issued Bevan a complaint summons. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
