WHAT TO KNOW

Very humid weather returns to New Jersey this week. Besides feeling very uncomfortable the next several days, the higher humidity will also be a major factor in some severe thunderstorm outbreaks and tropical-like downpours. These first few days of September will feel more like a summer throwback, with temperatures in the mid- and upper 80s.

Severe thunderstorms are looking likely Tuesday and Wednesday.

Temperatures will stay warmer into the morning with some rainfall. Lows will be near 70 degrees.

Monday starts off cloudy, with some showers. It will feel warm and muggy. Expect breaks of sun in the afternoon, with a risk of a shower or thunderstorm. High temperatures will climb back into the 80s.

It gets even hotter and more humid for Tuesday. There is a risk of severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and hail.

The severe weather risk and flash flood risk sticks around through about Thursday.

Much calmer and drier weather will return Friday on into the weekend.
