Multiple people displaced as fire rips through Deptford apartment building

A fire that broke out in a Deptford apartment building left multiple families displaced early Monday morning.
The blaze started around 12:45 a.m. on Hemlock Court in the Narraticon Apartments and quickly spread, impacting multiple units in the building. In a social media post, Deptford Fire Department’s Union Fire Company said multiple units responded to help bring the fire under control. When firefighters arrived, they found flames shooting out of the corner of the building. Police officers also responded and assisted with evacuating residents.
Crews from Deptford, as well as neighboring towns, provided mutual aid as the fire was elevated to three alarms. The fire was placed under control at about 3 a.m., and crews remained on location for another two hours, firefighters said.
According to the Red Cross, a team of volunteers responded to the fire and provided 12 people from five families with emergency assistance, including temporary lodging, clothing and food. The Red Cross also provided mental health and spiritual care services.
There is no word yet on whether anyone was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
