Fans of Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers turned out in large numbers Thursday for the grand opening of the restaurant's newest New Jersey location in Linden.
About 100 people gathered outside the restaurant on Routes 1 and 9 to celebrate the opening and take part in special giveaways.
"It's not just our food, it's our people. But our food is good," said Aimee Kessel of Raising Cane's.
As part of the grand opening celebration, 20 customers were selected to win free Raising Cane's for a year.
"It's gonna be the lucky 20, so 20 lucky folks are going to be winning Cane's for a year," Kessel said.
Customers said the restaurant's chicken and signature sauce are what keep them coming back.
"I like their chicken. The chicken is delicious, the sauce and everything is good here," said Wendi Watson of North Brunswick.
"I highly recommend you get extra sauce. Every time I get a combo meal, I always go extra," said Emmanuel Riley of North Plainfield.
Some fans traveled long distances for the opening.
Ryan Shupp of Coatesville, Pennsylvania, arrived at 6:45 p.m. the night before to secure the first spot in line.
"I do not work for Cane's, this is not a promotion. I just love Raising Cane's and I am number one," Shupp said.
The Linden restaurant is the ninth Raising Cane's location in New Jersey.
