Drivers in Westchester may want to plan ahead as construction work is expected to cause delays on the Cross County Parkway in Yonkers this week.

The New York State Department of Transportation says crews are scheduled to begin working on the eastbound side of the parkway throughout the week, weather permitting.

As a result, eastbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane between Exit 4 for Interstate 87 and Exit 5 for Kimball Avenue.

The work zone is near the Cross County Shopping Center, one of the busiest stretches of the parkway.

Officials say the lane reduction is expected to remain in place through Saturday.

Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes when possible or allow extra travel time.

State officials are also reminding motorists to slow down in construction zones and obey posted speed limits.

Work zone speed cameras may be in use in the area, and drivers who exceed the speed limit could face fines.
