The New Jersey Office of the Attorney General has identified a man killed in a police-involved shooting, as well as the Atlantic City police officer who they say fired the shots.

The shooting took place just before 3 p.m. on Tuesday on the 100 block of North Florida Avenue in Atlantic City.

Details about the shooting were not immediately made available. Officials say 52-year-old Donald Gardner, also known as Donald Caprotti, encountered two Atlantic City police officers on Tuesday. During the encounter, two officers were struck by gunfire and Gardner was fatally shot.

The attorney general says that Officer Robert Reynolds was the one who shot Gardner. He was not one of the officers injured.

One of the injured officers has been identified as Sgt. Christian Ivanov.

The New Jersey PBA has shared a GoFundMe to support his recovery, raising more than $175,000 so far.

Officials have not released additional identities.

Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. said his thoughts are with the officers and their families.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the two Atlantic City police officers who were wounded this afternoon, as well as their families, and the entire Atlantic City Police Department during this difficult time," Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small, Sr. said in a statement. "We are hopeful for their full and speedy recovery."
