Authorities are investigating a crash in Aberdeen Township that killed a 38-year-old man and left a young child injured Saturday night.

According to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the crash occurred around 9:16 p.m. at the intersection of Route 35 and Cliffwood Avenue.

Preliminary info found that a driver operating a 2015 Nissan Frontier was traveling southbound on Route 35 when the vehicle struck two people who were crossing the roadway in a marked crosswalk.

The two victims were attempting to cross from the west side of the highway to the east side when the crash occurred.

The adult man was thrown into the northbound lanes and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the man was carrying a child at the time of the collision. The child was transported to a local hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
