Roselle Park Mayor Joseph Signorello Jr. will introduce an ordinance to prohibit the development of data centers in the borough at the town's next mayor and council meeting.

His decision was largely influenced by growing concern from residents, he said in a Facebook announcement Tuesday.

"Roselle Park is a dense, residential community," Mayor Signorello wrote. "The energy demand, noise, and infrastructure footprint associated with data centers are not compatible with the character of our neighborhoods, and our zoning code should say so clearly."

There has been public outcry from residents around Union County after learning of the CoreWeave data center being built on the former Merck campus in Kenilworth, now known as the Northeast Science and Technology Center, or NEST.

Kenilworth's borough council approved the sale of the land to CoreWeave in 2025, with many residents from Kenilworth and surrounding towns, including Union Township and Roselle Park, saying they were never notified.

Mayor Signorello recently announced Roselle Park will eventually hold a community listening session on the data center being built in Kenilworth, though Kenilworth's borough leaders have noted that the window to stop the CoreWeave project has long passed.
