A new study by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that nearly 75% of drivers reported seeing at least one type of street racing in the past year.

The survey of more than 3,000 U.S. drivers examined behaviors including drag racing, street takeovers and drivers weaving through traffic. AAA said weaving through traffic was the most commonly observed form. More than 30% of respondents said they notice drivers weaving through traffic regularly or fairly often. In urban areas, that number rose to 37%.

In the Northeast, 65% of respondents said they saw street racers weaving through traffic at least once in the past year. Twenty‑eight percent reported seeing a street takeover, and 35% said they saw drag racing at least once in the past year.

Nearly half of Northeast respondents said they are concerned about street racing on public roads in their state. More than a third said street racing is a bigger problem now than in recent years.

AAA said respondents in urban areas reported more exposure to street racing and higher levels of concern, while rural drivers reported slightly higher participation but lower concern.
