A weekend search for a missing Woodbridge woman came to a tragic end after her body was recovered from the surf in Asbury Park.
The incident began at approximately 7:35 p.m. on Saturday, when Asbury Park Police and Fire personnel were dispatched to the beach near the 800 block of Ocean Avenue following reports of a possible drowning.
Upon arrival, first responders found several witnesses and civilians on the sand attempting to perform life‑saving measures on a woman who had been pulled from the water. Authorities noted the woman was fully clothed when she was recovered. Despite the efforts of bystanders and emergency medical teams, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A follow‑up investigation by local authorities confirmed that the woman had previously been reported missing out of Woodbridge Township.
At this time, police are withholding her identity out of respect for her family and the sensitive nature of the investigation.
The cause of death has not yet been officially determined. Officials are currently awaiting results from an autopsy to confirm how the woman died and the circumstances that led to her being in the water in Asbury Park.
No further details have been released regarding her initial disappearance from Woodbridge.
