Two days after a deadly shooting in Paterson, officers with the Community Police Division are on foot along 10th Avenue talking with area residents and store owners about the shooting on Saturday. At the same time, officers in patrol cars are also continuously surveilling the neighborhood.

"We want to reassure our residents in the 10th Avenue area that their safety is paramount, so they’re going to expect a heavy police presence," said Mayor Andre Sayegh.

The mayor confirms that police are reviewing multiple surveillance cameras to identify the gunman.

The shooting took place at 6:15 p.m. Saturday. Police say that four people were shot. A 20-year-old died, and two others suffered critical injuries.

Those in the neighborhood are hopeful an arrest are coming soon. Kareem Torres lives with his 10-year-old daughter two doors down from the crime scene.

“Hopefully, nothing gets retaliated. And that’s what worries us neighbors. Every family deserves peace and I want my daughter to grow up in a better neighborhood," said Kareem Torres.

In the meantime, Paterson police say this type of gun violence is unusual.

Police officials offered data showing that over the last year, shooting victims are down 53% and shooting incidents have been down 61%.
